Ronald Santasiero, MD graduated from SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine in 1975. In 1978, he completed a Family Medicine Residency at Buffalo’s Deaconess Hospital after which he became Board certified in Family Medicine. After completing his residency he became the first physician at Health Care Plan, the first HMO in Western New York. He practiced Family Medicine there for over 15 years, and also served as their Senior Associate Medical Director. In 1990, he re-trained in Medical Orthopedics, Pain Management, and Acupuncture. Dr. Santasiero’s Acupuncture training is through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada, at the University of Toronto, and the Medical Acupuncture training program at UCLA. He became one of the first 200 physicians Board Certified in Medical Acupuncture in the USA. His training in mind/body medicine was with well-known experts and authors Joan Borysenko, Ph.D., and Herbert Benson M.D. at Harvard University. Dr. Santasiero is certified in Herbal therapies and has extensive knowledge of nutrition. He is also certified in the “Cyriax Method” of Medical Orthopedics.
As Assistant Clinical Professor in Family Medicine at the SUNY at Buffalo School of Biomedical Sciences from 1987 to 1995, Dr. Santasiero lectured regularly on Acupuncture. He has been the Medical Director of the D’Youville College Physicians Assistant program since it began in 1992. He is also an adjunct professor at D’Youville College where teaches Physical Diagnosis, and Alternative Medicine and Nutrition. A popular international and local lecturer and speaker, Dr. Santasiero is the recipient of numerous awards in medicine and teaching. Also to his credit are several published articles, as well as appearances on radio and television. He has served on Advisory Boards of a number of local clinics and health related teaching programs.
In 1995 he and his wife Cherie Santasiero Ph.D., founded Sedona Holistic Medical Centre in Hamburg, New York, the first successful, and oldest holistic medical center in Western New York. At Sedona Holistic Medical Centre, Dr. Santasiero utilizes the best of traditional western medicine, combined with acupuncture, herbs, supplements, nutritional therapies, holistic psychotherapy and meditation, in treating patients, including professional athletes.His areas of interest and expertise include holistic addiction treatments, acupuncture, weight loss, holistic pain management, bio-identical hormone replacement, preventive medicine, wellness, and longevity medicine.
Dr. Santasiero is a member of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture and Diplomat of American Board of Medical Acupuncture.
Dr. Santasiero and his wife authored a book, namely, Addicted Teens, Our Lost Generation, An Integrative Approach to Understanding and Treating Addicted Teens.
